The Vaccine Book by Robert Sears

I have yet to read this cover to cover, but so far very informative. Since Dr. Sears (no relation) seems to be one of the last level headed (along with other docs of the parenting series) Drs. left I was looking forward to reading this.
What I have really enjoyed are Dr. Sears recommendations for protecting your childs immunity if you decide that you do not want to vaccinate your child. He also recommends a reduced vaccination schedule, highlighting vaccines he thinks are more critical to children. He also included information on international travel. He actually supports parents decisions whether or not they vaccinate and gives further information on finding a doctor that will supportive at the website http://www.thevaccinebook.com/ . He will keep the site updated as research is constantly changing and being done on the issue of vaccines.
The info is presented well. He actually backs up his research and gives both sides. When I visited my pedi on the issue of vaccines (which we have declined) I just got the crooked eye look and a hand out that looked like it was written on the level of a fifth grader from the state health dept. That did not help eleviate my fears or questions about vaccines. After reading this book I am more comfortable with my decision not to vaccinate.

Hi Angie,
I really admire your independence. I knew the dangers of vaccines (vaguely) and still just went right with it. I read one of Dr.Sears books on childbirth before Maddi was born. I thought it was great, though I got a lot of eye rolling from my doctor and he thought I was crazy.
As for the tree hugging...I guess it is easier to appreciate them when they are so abundant here. We actually went to hear the author of that book (Dr. Sleeth) speak last night. I missed it b/c I was with kids, but he actually opened by asking if anybody was a "treehugger", of which nobody raised their hands. (Even in California, at a church, that might be a little intimidating). So, he went on to talk about trees being mentioned throughout the bible and our connection with nature. That's all I've gotten out of Paul so far, but I'll let you know if there was more.
Maybe I'll see if there are any homeschooling books at the library and read one just to give it a fair shake.
Take care,
Kristi

P.S. I thought you might want to look at "bookmooch.com". I've been wanting to do it. You go online and list books that you want to get rid of. Then when someone wants them you send them off and get credit and then you look for titles that you are interested in and someone sends them to you. (I think) It sounds like a great idea instead of buying more books and stacking them on the shelf.
